Volunteer with BNB

Bikes Not Bombs simply couldn't function without our tremendous volunteer support! Volunteers earn credit by the hour, which can be cashed in for used parts, frames, or even whole bikes.

When: Every Thursday night from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
(except when canceled, as listed on home page)

Where: BNB Hub, 284 Amory St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130

What: Helping process donated bikes for use in our programs. No special skills required!

Every year in June our Bike-A-Thon engages over 100 volunteers! We need people to do all sorts of things like riding along the route, setting up tents, selling raffle tickets, taking pictures, and much much more! Volunteering for this big event is a fun way to get involved and meet other people who support the work of Bikes Not Bombs.

Office Volunteering

Free on a weekday during the day? Come to BNB for a relaxing morning or afternoon of helpful office volunteering! This work is mostly data entry, and some envelope stuffing. It's easy, somewhat boring, but super important! Your help with these simple tasks will support our Youth Programs and International Programs, and you'll get a glimpse into the inner-workings of our efficient administrative systems! We're especially looking for volunteers who can commit to a weekly pattern, but one-off times are also helpful. And we can work around your schedule, any weekday between 10 am and 5 pm. Contact Sean Madsen at sean@bikesnotbombs.org to set up a time.

International Bike Shipments

Come help load a 40-foot container with bicycles and parts to send overseas. Nine or ten times a year we bring in lots of volunteers for most of a weekend day to do this.

We'll give you a full course in bike mechanics, and then you will help teach young people to rebuild and earn a bike to be their own! Go on fun rides and teach about safe riding and social justice issues. Female and male volunteers needed!

Community Outreach

Choose some shops and community/social centers in your neighborhood, or places at your school, and put up posters and drop off newsletters or brochures for our Bike-A-Thon, youth programs, or special events! Email natalie@bikesnotbombs.org, or call 617-522-0222 x104 to be added to our list of outreach volunteers.

Organize a local bike collection in your neighborhood through your school, community group, church, or family!

When you do the outreach to bring the bike donors to your drive, we'll send a trained BNB volunteer with a big truck to come pick them all up.

Photography

We can always use more photos of our programs! If you love taking pictures, we'd love to have your help capturing all the exciting work that we do! Email Natalie at natalie@bikesnotbombs.org.

Host Your Party at BNB

Hosting your party at BNB is an opportunity to bring your community into our space, and to combine your own celebrations with an introduction to BNB programs. There are endless possibilities; watch films about our International Programs, make smoothies in the bike blender, or receive a basic mechanics lesson from one of our amazing Youth Instructors. Parties can work for adults and young people, and can take place on weekday evenings or weekends. For more information, or to plan and schedule a party at Bikes Not Bombs, contact our Director of Fundraising & Events, Erica Rotman, at erica@bikesnotbombs.org, or 617-522-0222 x106.

Van and Truck Drivers

We need experienced drivers who will pick up bikes from donors on a very occasional basis and bring them to us. Every spring and fall we collect bikes at drives throughout the state, and helping run these drives and pick up the bikes in a BNB truck is a great way to support our work. Stephen Bosco coordinates our drives, and he can be contacted at stephen@bikesnotbombs.org

Lunch Brakes

If you're interested in getting involved with BNB but don't have the time to come to us, consider hosting a Lunch Brake at your office. We'll come to your workplace for a one-hour multimedia presentation that describes our programs and all the ways you can join the Bikes Not Bombs community. All you have to do is gather some co-workers and secure a space.

For more information, or to schedule a Lunch Brake, contact our Director of Fundraising and Events, Erica Rotman, at erica@bikesnotbombs.org or 617-522-0222 x106.

Computer tech help

If you have skills with things like: Drupal, CiviCRM, PHP, Ruby, Bash, or sys admin (Linux / OS X) -- then we could use your help! Contact Sean Madsen at sean@bikesnotbombs.org.
