Great Commuter Challenge [April 25th]
Join Bikes Not Bombs & friends on Saturday April 25th to explore Boston and compete in a multi-modal scavenger hunt: the Great Commuter Challenge!
Teams of 2 to 5 people will pick a mode of transportation (car, MBTA, or bike) and compete against each other ā and the clock ā to rack up points on a scavenger hunt challenge en route to our mystery final destination in Dorchester.Ā
Teams will be given a list of scavenger hunt challenges to pick from, creating & navigating their own path through the city. Points will be awarded for each challenge completed as well as arrival times. As teams arrive, weāll tally up the points to determine our winners.
NEW for 2026: We’ve updated our scoring system to make it a more stream-lined and straightforward process ā and removed ourselves as competitors. Each team will be accompanied by a BNB staff member and at least one Youth Apprentice to help you work through any challenges and to document your scavenger hunt points!
Prizes include biking accessories and a BNB gift card. At the end location, join us for lunch and ice cream while we share our journeys, compare our scavenger hunt points, and hand out prizes to our winners!
Starting point: Bikes Not Bombs, 284 Amory St in Jamaica Plain
End point: Final location will be revealed at the event, but we will be ending in Dorchester at a location accessible by car, public transportation, and bike.Ā
RSVP required: Let us know if you can make it! Everyone is welcome to join. Please RSVP by Thursday April 23rd so that we can order enough food for everyone.
Schedule:
- 10:00 am: Meet up at BNB, form your teams, and review the rules. Each team will be given a list of scavenger hunt tasks & scoring rubric, a basic map, and a copy of the rules.Ā
- 10:30 am: Let the scavenger hunt begin!
- 1:00 pm: Teams arrive at our End Point to submit their photos & routes, hang out with pizza and ice cream.
- 1:45 pm: Winners are announced and prizes are given out!
- 2:00 pm: Close out at our End Point; or head back to BNB on a group bike ride, transit convoy, or carpool.
