ABEO POWDER, a first generation Caribbean American, educator, runner, and cyclist joined the Bikes Not Bombs team in 2022 to integrate wellness initiatives into our positive youth development model.
A lead Organizer for our Bicyclists Organizing for Community Action (BOCA) team, Abeo connects young people with opportunities to care for themselves, so they can more effectively advance causes that impact their families and communities.
This Year, the BOCA Team:
• Paired group rides with meditation, yoga, and structured conversations about restorative justice.
• Expanded affordable bicycle infrastructure in Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan through Chain Reaction mobile bike repair events.
• Collaborated with local grassroots organizations to “show up and show out” for social change, and much more...
“This work is so valuable because it enables youth to recognize, believe in, and act on the potential they all have within themselves.”
– Abeo Powder
Help Us Grow Youth Pathways That:
• Enable young people to build skills and confidence while earning a bike to keep as their own in our foundational Bike School.
• Engage Black and other marginalized youth in a three-year, paid Youth Apprenticeship program.
• Provide safe spaces for Boston youth to explore healthy living practices that nurture physical, social, emotional, and mental well-being.
“I really like the quiet of doing yoga and meditation. It puts me in a good state of mind to think about myself. In BOCA, I also get to do public speaking, which is important because I want to help create a world where youth voices are heard and people are kind to one another.”

Through this work, teenagers…
Recognize their self worth in spaces that both provide structured mentorship and honor youth initiative and leadership.
Believe that they are capable and powerful, as they cultivate new skill sets, discover new passions, and tend to their personal well-being.
Act in service to themselves and others, as they raise their voices to ensure that all people have access to resources, well-being, and joy.
"We’re building a world where people can come together in positive ways, without having to resort to violence. We reflect, have deep conversations, go on fun trips, and speak publicly about social justice. I recognize a lot of growth within myself, and I’m proud to be making changes that can help generations to come."
