Orange Line Shutdown Resources
From Friday August 19 to Sunday September 18th, the Orange Line will be shut down for maintenance and repairs. While this is an inconvenience to many people, fortunately organizations and groups are providing opportunities for people to use bicycles and other modes of transportation to make this transition as easy as possible. Check out our resources below to help you navigate the shutdown!

Bikes Not Bombs - Bike Match
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bikes Not Bombs has run a Bike Match program to connect people in need of transportation with a free bicycle. With the recent Orange Line shutdowns, we would like to provide those affected by the shutdown with free bicycles. If you have a bike you are willing to donate to someone in need, please fill out the application on the Bike Match website and we will be in touch. Thank you in advance.
Bluebikes:
The City of Boston is offering free 30-day Bluebikes passes during the Orange Line shutdown. Anyone can get a free pass via the Bluebikes app (starting August 19th, 2022) no matter where you live - passes are good for an unlimited number of 45 minute trips.
Commuter Rail:
Anyone can board a train at Commuter Rail stations within the City of Boston at no charge during the Orange Line shutdown. To board, show the conductor a CharlieCard or CharlieTicket. They do not need to have value on them, and you do not need to buy a pass or Commuter Rail ticket. This applies to all Zone 1A, 1, and 2 Commuter Rail stations outside the City as well. Boston Cyclists Union:
Our community partner, the Boston Cyclists Union (BCU) is organizing to help people navigate the shut-down and offer opportunities for safe and accessible bicycling. If you have resources or are able to assist BCU in their efforts to help new and existing cyclists, please fill out this form.
Orange Line Closure Travel Guide:
Boston City Council Member Kendra Lara and her team have put together an Orange Line Closure Travel Guide that includes an explanation of why the Orange Line is closing, a shuttle service map, and additional resources and phone numbers. You can view it here.
