Solidarity and Justice for Alex Pretti, Renée Good, and Keith Porter Jr.

To the Bikes Not Bombs community:

We are devastated and outraged by the killing of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse and fellow cyclist, by federal agents in Minneapolis. Alex was killed while bravely documenting and intervening in an immigration enforcement operation, an act of solidarity, his power to protect others from systemic violence. His death, alongside the recent killings of Renée Good (in Minneapolis) and Keith Porter Jr. (in Los Angeles), is a painful reminder that militarized forces in our streets are a threat to the safety and dignity of our neighbors, especially in marginalized and immigrant communities.

Bikes Not Bombs was founded on the idea that bicycles are tools for liberation and direct alternatives to the "bombs" of militarism and state violence. Our history is rooted in standing up against injustice, and today, that means defending the First Amendment and the right to non-violent protest. For democracy and the rule of law to mean anything, they must protect those who speak truth to power, not shield those who take lives without accountability.

Ultimately, standing up for big ideals like justice and equity is about caring—deeply—for one another, for our neighbors, and for our youth. When we care for our community, we cannot remain silent in the face of harm. We stand in solidarity with those who remind us that our true power lies in how we show up for each other. We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of Alex, Renée, and Keith.

We stand with the people of Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and the entire country and demand an end to state-sponsored brutality. We ride in their memory, committed to reclaiming our streets as spaces of peace, justice, and community power. 🚲✊🏽

We Ride In Unity

Saturday 1/31 at 2pm in Copley Square

From Critical Mass Boston:

On Saturday, we’ll be riding in solidarity with @angrycatfish and the people of Minnesota. Dress warmly. Meet 2, ride 2:30. Copley Square as usual.

From Angry Catfish:
Alex was one of us, could’ve been any of us, so as we mourn, all of us can come together in unity to remember Alex for what he was. A kind and caring soul put on this earth to be the light for others. Although his light has been extinguished by this fascist regime, it hasn’t been lost. If anything, those sparks fell and ignited something in us that’s been hiding all along. We are stronger together, and they can’t take us all. We’ve gathered together a community of cyclists to remember Alex Pretti. Please join in, near or far this Saturday, 1/31 1:00 PM Central Time
-
We’re asking folks to host rides and come together. Bike shops and non-profits, cycling orgs and alt cycling collectives, city and rural. We are many but we stand together as one.
-
If you’d like to join in and gather folks together, please print the flyer and tag us on social media so we can share where your ride will take place. Files attached are courtesy of Casey Robertson of Robertson Design @champagne_rodman
