Thank you to the Barr Foundation!
We are thrilled to announce the Barr Foundation has awarded Bikes Not Bombs a $280,000 grant to support us as we expand Bike Shop operations into Roxbury; grow our capacity to advance racial equity within our organization and in our target communities of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan; and advance youth-led organizing initiatives to improve transportation equity in communities that have historically been denied essential resources. With the support of the Barr Foundation, we will build needed infrastructure in Roxbury to ensure that more families have access to affordable, sustainable transportation and support young people as they develop skills, confidence, and vocational pathways. The Barr Foundation’s mission is to invest in human, natural, and creative potential, serving as thoughtful stewards and catalysts.
Based in Boston, Barr focuses regionally, and selectively engages nationally, working in partnership with nonprofits, foundations, the public sector, and civic and business leaders to elevate the arts, advance solutions for climate change, and connect all students to success in high school and beyond. Founded in 1997, Barr now has assets in excess of $3 billion, and has contributed more than $1 billion to charitable causes.

We’re thankful to the Barr Foundation for supporting our mission of using the bicycle as a vehicle for social change to achieve economic mobility for Black and other marginalized people in Boston and the Global South.
