On Wednesday October 26th Bikes Not Bombs welcomed 120 people to the Sixth Annual Building Momentum Breakfast at the Nonprofit Center in downtown Boston. We enjoyed delicious pastries and coffee from Ula Café and Barrington Coffee and guests learned more about Bikes Not Bombs as staff and supporters shared their experiences.

Eric Mearns, our own Collection Manager, welcomed guests to the event and Earn-A-Bike Coordinator Jerrone Elliot shared his story.  Jerrone spoke about his growing confidence in himself and the work he can do and his future career plans, sharing what he'd learned in his 4 years as a BNB employee and his 2 years running Earn-A-Bike.  Bikes Not Bombs Executive Director Jodi Sugerman-Brozan and long-term donor and volunteer David Read also shared their visions for Bikes Not Bombs and the work we do.

At the conclusion of the breakfast we were immensely grateful that over 53% of the guests chose to support Bikes Not Bombs.  Forty percent committed to multi-year gifts which help with long-term planning and leads to stability with our programs.  Five donors joined our “Wheels in Motion” team, a group of individuals pledging at least $1,000 per year for the next five years and 3 existing member of the Wheels in Motion team also increased and extended their pledge.

We are excited to announce that in total, the Building Momentum Breakfast raised over $65,000 for the next 5 years in support of our youth, international and shop programs.  The generosity of the guests spoke to the committment of our grassroots community that provides over 79% of Bikes Not Bombs' financial support for youth and international programs.

A video produced by former staff members David Branigan and Derek McIntire highlighted a day at Bikes Not Bombs and featured a number of individuals who have been involved at BNB.  Mira Brown,  BNB Co-Founder, reflected back on our 30+ year history and says "Bikes Not Bombs has accomplished so much...while we have this unifying theme of the bicycle we've...done a lot from youth development to community development in Boston and in a whole variety of communities around the world".

We'd like to extend a tremendous thanks to everyone who helped with this event.  Thank you to our planning committee, Ula Café for a delicious breakfast spread, Barrington Coffee for beverages and the NonProfit Center for the space. Photographer Will Daniels helped capture wonderful images of attendees and the amazing film by Derek McIntire, David Branigan, Northern Light Productions and Bob Nesson contributed to the success of the breakfast. Special thanks to Table Captains who invited guests - Scott Carson, Michael Gero, Everett Briggs, Judith McMichael, David Read, Janie Harari, Amy Battisti-Ashe and Michael Meuhe, Joe Lieber, Kimberly Ramsey, Robson Goulart and BNB's Board of Directors. And last but far from least, thank you to everyone who joined us.
