Dave Gilbert and volunteer mechanics with Carl Kurz at their sendoff to New Orleans in March 2006. Dave Gilbert, a longtime Bikes Not Bombs volunteer, passed away unexpectedly at the end of February, at his bike shop in Plymouth. For well over a decade Dave brought his love and dedication to Bikes Not Bombs and other cycling causes. He was a sweep rider for our Bike-A-Thon, riding last to fix flats and issues along the way and make sure everyone made it to the finish. He also supported the EMS Memorial's "Ride To Remember,” the National MS Society, The Pan Mass Challenge, The American Lung Association, The Coalition For Buzzards Bay, and Ryan’s Ride.

In 2006 after Hurricane Katrina, Dave joined a team of mechanics from Bikes Not Bombs to accompany a BNB shipment and rebuild bikes in New Orleans. Dave brought such positive energy and a willingness to do whatever he could for the cause - we'll miss you Dave!

With this incredibly sad news, our thoughts go out especially to the family he left behind. Dave's wife Jean contacted Bikes Not Bombs to donate the materials of his bike shop, Gilly's Cycling Adventures in Plymouth, saying Dave cared so much about the programs here, he would be happy to know these materials are supporting Bikes Not Bombs' work. Dave will live on in our thoughts and in these bike parts, some of which will keep young people cycling in Boston and others which will go into our upcoming shipments to Africa.

Thank you Dave Gilbert!
