A new cyclist oversees his bikeMirriam and Benjamin fix a flat

International Programs Director David is in Ghana, visiting our partner organization Ability Bikes Cooperative.  During his two week trip he is working closely with the staff of Ability Bikes to provide technical assistance.

After a day of accounting and computer training in the office with the Ability Bikes admin staff, I went over to the mechanics shop. Mirriam and Benjamin were fixing a flat and re-installing the wheel - no small feat on an internally-geared coaster-brake rear wheel.

Sule and Julius were finishing the bikes they were working on while Agyen was doing a test ride. Maud joined us at the workshop, and we started cleaning and packing up for the day. Agyen started passing the bikes to Benjamin, who packed them in the shop. I joined in between them to roll the bikes into the shop. It was just like the BNB shop in JP, bringing the bikes in at the end of the day and packing them efficiently in the open spaces.

Throughout the day, Ability Bikes sold about 5 bikes, and lots of parts. One of the bikes was a 16" kids bike, along with a set of training wheels - a first bike for a new cyclist.

We've got 4 more days of meetings and trainings ahead of us, and we're off to a great start.
