Bike Shipment Sent to Tanzania
On September 27th, Bikes Not Bombs shipped our 4th container of bicycles and parts to our partner in Arusha, Tanzania - the Global Alliance for Africa Vijana Vocational Center. There were 430 bicycles, 38 frames, 200 wheels, 32 bundles of tires and many boxes of parts packed into the container, as well as lots of love and effort.

The bikes and parts that are on their way to the Vijana Vocational Center will help the school support young people orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. The center provides training in bicycle mechanics, pedal powered design, appropriate technology, computer literacy, secretarial skills and language skills. The repair and sale of the bicycles provides the majority of the center's budget and is expanding its capacity to provide services to more youth. The large amounts of used parts will outfit the bicycle workshop of the center with a good selection of replacement parts, and the excess parts will be sold to individual customers and to other bicycle mechanics, building up the repair capacity and bicycle infrastructure of Arusha, Tanzania.
