Bill McKibben

Bill McKibben, best-selling environmentalist author and activist will speak for Bikes Not Bombs again on Thursday, May 28.

McKibben's first book, The End of Nature, was published in 1989. He has written eleven more books since, covering both the seriousness of global warming and the growing movement to change the conditions that create it, including Hope, Human and Wild; Deep Economy; Fight Global Warming Now; and many, many articles articles in Atlantic Monthly, the New York Times, Mother Jones, and other great publications.

McKibben is one of the most important voices helping to inform and catalyze the local and international movement for environmental sustainability. A resident scholar at Middlebury College, he is an activist beyond his writing. He organized the Step It Up 2007 campaign (described as the largest day of protest about climate change in the nation's history), has pressured US administrations to attend international climate talks, and is a founder and a key activist with the 350 Campaign. McKibben's presentations and writings challenge the fundamentals of current economic thinking, which hold as a sacred cow the mantra of "perpetual economic growth". McKibben undeniably makes a case for a paradigm shift wherein our prosperity need not be at odds with our environment.

Bill McKibben was keynote speaker at Bikes Not Bombs' Green Roots Festival last year. This year the Bike-A-Thon and Green Roots Festival will be promoting the 350 Campaign in a very conscientious way. This event with Bill McKibben on May 28th builds momentum towards June 7th, by helping to educate our community about one of the most important existential issues of our time. Bring your friends, and encourage them to join hundreds of riders raising money for BNB's programs promoting biking, sustainable use of resources, international development and youth leadership. Tickets will be discounted for registered Bike-A-Thon riders. (If you haven't yet registered to ride on June 7th, register now!)

There will be a full question and answer period after the talk. We recommend you get your Bill McKibben tickets in advance.
